Our Story
WAHT IS KIMCHI ALL ABOUT?
It is a labor of love to Koreans—often made by Korean moms for even their grown-up children. It is common in Korea for mothers to make large batches of kimchi to send it to their loving children, regardless of their age or location, via express mail.
There are many reasons why Sojung created Midnight Kimchi, but as a Korean mom, she says she also has that love deep in her genes for her daughter. So she'd love to imagine that one day, when her daughter leaves home for college, work, or traveling, she goes with these starters, instead of big heavy jars, to recreate her mom's Kimchi at a fraction of the time and effort, and can still enjoy that same love and flavor. Authentic kimchi. Less time. More heart.
WHY MIDNIGHT KIMCHI?
Midnight Kimchi comes from Sojung, the founder, making kimchi in the middle of the night before bed—so often that it became a routine. She made batch after batch to perfect her recipes. Thankfully, with the Midnight Kimchi Starter Mix, what used to be a big, planned-out project turned into a quick and fun little ritual. Then, she would go to bed looking forward to checking it out the next morning!
One night, while she was once again making kimchi before bed, her husband walked by and joked, “You should call your company Midnight Kimchi!” Right then and there, she knew that was the name her business was meant to have. Making kimchi doesn’t need to be stressful or overwhelming. Now you can make it anytime you like—even at midnight
